Bring it on Breaking Dawn Party: Breaking Dawn Photo Props

Who's ready for Breaking Dawn II to hit the theaters this week?
I am so freaking excited!!!!
Except for the first movie - because I was 36 weeks pregnant - I've seen
the movie opening "morning" at midnight.
It is so much fun to wait with friends, be silly, and have a great time
enjoying the CGI madness that is the Twilight Movie franchise.
And what's even more fun is that I've connected with Marissa of rae gun ramblings
virtually over the years over our love for fun young adult fiction.
She had this great idea to bring together some fabulous bloggers that are also Twi-hards
to share some fun ideas to get the fever for the release of Breaking Dawn II.
 Breaking Dawn Party Peeps

To help get you in the mood to PAR-TAY! this Thursday night -
my group gets to see it at 10:00pm - WOOT!
I've made some rad Twilight Inspired photo props!!!
I used my Silhouette to cut out the shapes and then I put them together.
I used skewers I already had and secured them to the props with hot glue.

We've got the infamous chess pieces, Billy Black's hat, a wide variety of mustaches
in honor of Charlie Swan, wolf faces, and of course - vampire lips!

Then I got JT involved for a little photo booth action.

I hope you enjoy!!!
Most of the images are from the Silhouette Store.
The wolf pieces I designed myself.
You can download the cut files for the words and wolf pieces HERE!

Funky PolkaDot Giraffe Blog PAR-TAY Day 6: GIVEAWAY #1

GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Howdy PAR-TAY goers!
Did you enjoy the week?
We're here on our last day of the PAR-TAY and I'm sad!
I've loved hearing from all of you
and I hope you'll stick around and keep visiting
once the PAR-TAY is over.

I'd like to introduce you to my "cousin" - Cory.
I say "cousin" because our husbands are cousins,
but we always say we're cousins,
and then we go into this whole explanation about
how our husbands are cousins because
my husband's dad and her husband's mom
are brother and sister.
LOL

She's a woman of many talents.
She makes GORGEOUS things out of fondant.
And since we both adore cupcakes,
she had the genius idea to do a cupcake blog together.
Then, one day, she realized if she could make awesome
things out of fondant, why couldn't she make them out of clay!

So, now she also runs a cute little Etsy shop called Lady Cupcake's Corner
and has an awesome blog called Sometimes I Craft Myself.
If you live in Utah and are regulars of The Sweet Tooth Fairy
(Like I wish I could be- VaNIElla, that is all.)
you might have seen her awesome
cupcake key chains in their shops.

She also makes cute coasters . . .

spooky paintings . . .
and cute clips . . .

that you can hang artwork or Christmas cards on during the holidays.
And of course, because she is Lady Cupcake,
she has darling cupcake items.
Like these cutesy business card holders.

I *LOVE* the cupcakes,
but I can't wait for the custom Funky PolkaDot Giraffe she's making me.
::hint:: ::hint::

The awesome thing about having such a craft cousin
is that I get awesome crafty presents.
I own a set of coasters, a set of clips for my Christmas card display,
and as a goodbye present,
(sadly she moved FAR away from me this summer)
I got a cute purple cupcake key chain.

Cory is here to giveaway,
not one,
not two,
not three,
not four,
but FIVE cupcake key chains to FIVE lucky winners.
To enter
Head on over to Lady Cupcake's Corner and have a look around.
*HEART* her shop and then
come back here and leave me a comment telling me which TWO items are your favorites.
Be sure to leave your email address as well so I can contact you if you win!
If you don't leave an email address, or if your profile isn't linked to your email,
I'll pick a different winner!

ONE entry per person.
(not per email address - per person)

You can also find Lady Cupcake's Corner on Facebook!

Giveaway ends Oct. 7th at MIDNIGHT PST

Funky PolkaDot Giraffe Blog PAR-TAY Day 5: RECIPE

Bonjour! I'm Libby from The Bonjour Family
{hope you will stop by and visit!}, and I am so excited to
be a guest over here at Funky PolkaDot Giraffe today.

What a fun par-tay Kyla has going on right now!
Isn't she awesome? Lots of fun giveaways!

There are so many fun Halloween ideas
floating around the blog world lately, so
I thought I would contribute to all the fun and
share with you a little Halloween do-it-yourself.
{Except I'm being lazy and giving you recipe
cards instead of doing a step-by-step tutorial.}

The other day I was reading Taste of Home,
{one of my favs} and saw an idea for monster cupcakes.

Totally inspired, I thought I'd try my hand
at it and here is the result:

Meet:

Green Eyed Monster

Photobucket

Orange You Spiky

Photobucket

and
Purple People Eater

Photobucket

Wouldn't these three be perfect for
a Halloween party?!

I am planning on making them again
for our church's Fall Festival coming up at the end of October.

Except I might have to leave out Mr. Purple People Eater.
His tongue was a pain in the rear end, to put it nicely.
But, these are definitely a lot of fun to make.

Photobucket

And my kitchen, whoa, it looked like Willy Wonka's
Chocolate Factory after I was finished making these guys.

My little guy, Noah, thought they were pretty fun!

Photobucket

So now you can make yourself, um..I mean your kids,
these monsters for some Halloween fun!

Click here to download the recipes.
{Right click, save link as, & save it to your desktop}

Enjoy!

Thanks Kyla again for letting me join
in on the par-tay! ;)

Funky PolkaDot Giraffe Blog PAR-TAY Day 5: TUTORIAL

Hi, I'm Amy and I'm super excited to guest post on Funky Polkadot Giraffe. This is my first guest post so hopefully I won't disappoint. I have just started sewing a lot in the past month or so and I've been having a great time. My grandmother has been a seamstress for decades and I'm proud to say that she's inspired me to start doing it myself.

Now for aa little bit about me. I have been married for the past 8 years (almost 9) and we have two children. I own my own business where I make hand stamped jewelry and specialize in heirloom pieces. I love creating items that the recipient can cherish for years to come. I've just started adding my sewn goods to the shop as well. I have a blog where I post just about everything: crafts, jewelry, sewing, tutorials, recipes, family pictures, ideas I love from other blogs and more. I hope you'll come visit.

On to the tutorial! I used four different patterns of fabric, but feel free to use as many as you want to make the bag as eclectic as you choose. I did interface some of the pieces to make it a little more sturdy.

Ingredients:
A. 3 pieces of 4"x15"
B. 2 outside pieces of 9"x12.5" (interfaced)
C. 2 lining pieces of 9"x12.5"
D. 1 pocket of 7"x9" (interfaced)
E. 1 pocket of 4"x6" (interfaced)
F. 1 ruffle cover of 2.25"x9"
G. 1 shoulder strap of 4"x56"
One zipper

1. Fold over all 4 edges of piece E about 1/4", press, and double over the top edge, pressing again.
2. Sew along the top edge of piece E.
3. Pin piece E to one of the lining pieces (C), centered on the fabric. Stitch it to the lining on the three edges, leaving the top open.
4. Fold over the top edge of the larger pocket (D) 1/4", press, then fold over again and press. Make a seam along the top of the pocket.

5. Place pocket D on top of the second lining piece (C), lined up with the sides and bottom. Stitch a seam in the middle from the bottom of the bag to the top of the pocket.
6. Create the ruffles with the 3 A pieces by folding them over, wrong sides together and stitching a long seam by hand (knot one end of the thread). Pull the thread until the ruffle is 9" wide. Pin the first ruffle 1/2" from the bottom of the first outside piece (B). Sew the ruffle onto the lining with a 1/4" seam and then remove the straight stitch used to make the ruffle.
7. Repeat with the other two ruffles.
8. Fold over both long edges of the ruffle cover (F) 1/2" and press. Pin on top of the raw edge of the top ruffle and sew along the top and bottom of the ruffle cover.

9. Layer a lining (C) face up, zipper up, outside piece (B) down. Sew along the zipper, making sure you use the zipper foot to get close to the zipper.
10. Flip the lining and outer fabric and sew along the edge to hold it down.
11. Repeat with the second lining piece and outer fabric.
12. Flip the fabrics over and sew along the edge.

13. Open the zipper. Pin the lining pieces together and the outer pieces together. Starting 2" from the side along the bottom edge of the lining, sew a 3/8" seam all the way around the lining and outer pieces, leaving about 4" along the bottom of the lining open for turning.
14. Clip the excess zipper.
15. Turn the bag right side out, pulling the lining all of the way out.
16. Fold over the open edges and sew. You can sew this closed by hand with a matching thread if you'd like to hide the seam.

17. Push the lining inside.
18. The finished bag.
19. Assemble the shoulder strap by putting long edges together and sewing a seam down the length of the strap. I had to use three pieces of fabric to make my strap.
20. Turn the strap right side out by using a safety pin attached to one short edge.

21. Press the strap flat with the seam in the middle.
22. Fold over the raw edges by 1/2". Repeat on the second side.
23. Sew all of the way around the strap, very close to the edge.
24. Make yours a little prettier than mine!

25. Attach the strap to the bag at the ends about 2" down. I sewed a square and made an X in the middle. I'm not going to lie, this was tricky and not easy at all to do.
26. All done! Ready to use and I am using it!

I decided to add a bow at the last minute. I didn't like how the strap was laying so I used my ribbon, added fray check to the ends and did a bow on both sides. If anything doesn't make sense, please feel free to contact me via my blog. Thanks for checking out my tutorial and be sure to stop by and see me sometime!

P.S. From Kyla :)
I was lucky enough to win on of Amy's
beautiful hand stamped necklaces
from a giveaway on 30 Days.
It is fantastic.
And I personalized it with one of my favorite sayings.
Holla!
I can attest to her awesomeness.
Christmas is coming up.
I think you should check her out.

PSA: A few things

I hope you're enjoying the PAR-TAY!
I have enjoyed having all of you
and having all our guest posters and giveaways.
They have been awesome.
Thanks, ladies!!!

The party will go til tomorrow at 5pm.
I'll start announcing the winners on Monday.

And before I go,
I want to share this!

You know I love candy corn!
And I was horrified to see that I didn't have a candy corn korker in the shop.
Blasphemy!
So I made one :)
And, I may be crazy, but I entered
my Candy Corn Bunting in this!

Ok, I know I am crazy.
But I couldn't pass up the chance to be paired
with one of the 12 powerhouses of crafting!
