7 Major NT Books

From January 2010 to July 2014, I have nine Semesters to teach 9 electives, one elective per Semester. I have thought about this since our Faculty Consultation last May, and I have come up with the seven most important NT books which one must (in my view) understand in depth if one is to claim to know the breath and width of NT theology. My top 7 NT books are, not in any particular order:

1) The Gospel of John
2) Revelation
3) Romans
4) Acts
5) 2 Corinthians
6) Hebrews
7) The Gospel of Matthew

As I am going to offer Revelation twice in the next 4 1/2 years, my eight elective is a collection of letters, among my favourites, the Pastoral Epistles - 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus.

I know some of you will dispute my seven, but I had to make a choice. It is difficult to leave out The Gospel of Luke, 1 Corinthians, Galatians, James and even 1 Peter. But I reckon if I remain an academic until I retire I may get through the whole NT corpus, all 27 books. But God usually has other plans. Lord, if I am in Your plan, I am content, wherever You may lead, let me obey You for Your presence is all I care: "As for me I will behold Thy face in righteousness, I shall be satisfied, when I am awake, with thy likeness" (Psalm 17:15).

How can you not teach a course on the Gospel of John, Tony?
:)

Yes, Lou, I am really looking forward to teaching this course on John's Gospel. I read from your blog that John is also your favourite gospel and next to it Matthew. It's same with me.
